Valdas Adamkus congratulated the President of Iceland on national holiday

Wednesday, June 17, Vilnius - President Valdas Adamkus congratulated President Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson on the occasion of Icelandic National Day and extended his best wishes for the well-being and prosperity of the people of Iceland.

In his letter of congratulations, President Adamkus noted that that Lithuania and Iceland were linked by strong bonds of mutual trust and support. He underlined that Lithuania and its people would never forget the resolute stand taken by Iceland - its support to Lithuanian independence - and they would forever remain open to close mutual cooperation and solidarity in addressing the serious challenges that our two countries have to confront.

"I am looking forward to welcoming you in Vilnius on July 6, when Lithuania celebrates the millennium of the first mention of its name in written sources. I firmly believe that this meeting of regional leaders will provide a sound impetus to building even stronger ties between our countries and developing cooperation between our people, business communities, and politicians," Mr. Adamkus wrote in his letter to the President of Iceland.
