Press ReleasesPresident opened Lithuanian-language class in Tbilisi
"In these times of fast communication, knowing any foreign language is a great asset. Foreign language skills enable us to understand each other better and get to know many diverse cultures," Mr. Adamkus said.
President Adamkus thanked all those who had contributed to the opening of the Lithuanian-language class in Tbilisi and expressed hope that this initiative would be also supported by other Lithuanian institutions and private companies.
The Lithuanian-language class was launched by the Embassy of Lithuania in Georgia with premises received free of charge from the Tbilisi City Council.
People of many different interests have enrolled into this class. Some of them have friends or business partners in Lithuania, while others view language learning as an interesting pastime.
Classes will be held once a week, every Thursday night. Two volunteers from Lithuania, who have come to Georgia for social work, will teach Lithuanian.
Today President Adamkus will meet with President Mikheil Saakashvili of Georgia to discuss bilateral and regional cooperation initiatives implemented during Mr. Adamkus' presidency as well as the situation in Georgia and its prospects for Euro-Atlantic integration.
The Presidents of Lithuania and Georgia will attend the opening ceremony of Vilnius Square in Tbilisi.
Later on in the day, President Adamkus will take part in a reception held to celebrate the Millennium of Lithuania and also on the occasion of his visit to Georgia.
President Adamkus is returning to Vilnius late evening.
