President extends deep sympathy to families of Latvian servicemen killed in Afghanistan last Saturday

Monday, May 4, Vilnius - President of the Republic of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus extended deep sympathy to the President of the Republic of Latvia Valdis Zatlers and to the families of two Latvian servicemen killed during an insurgents' attack in Afghanistan last Saturday.

"The death of brave and courageous sons of Latvia is extremely painful, but this sacrifice is not in vain. Lithuania and Latvia, having regained independence and rejoined the democratic and free world not so long ago, today are fighting together with allies in NATO for the freedom and security of other nations far away from their home borders".

"Together with the people of Lithuania, I bow my head before the two fallen freedom defenders and all Latvian servicemen performing their duty at a daily risk to their lives to make more and more people in Afghanistan feel safe and secure," writes Lithuania's President in his letter of condolences.

President Adamkus also wished other two Latvian soldiers wounded during the attack to get well soon and rejoin their friends in arms.
