President Adamkus presented letters of credence to Lithuania’s new ambassador to the United Kingdom

Friday, May 15, Vilnius - President of the Republic of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus presented letters of credence to Mr. Oskaras Jusys as Lithuania's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.


Presenting the letters of credence, the President of the Republic expressed belief that Mr. Oskaras Jusys with his vast diplomatic experience would successfully continue to maintain the strong and value-based partnership relations with Great Britain. The President underlined that the Ambassador was given responsibility to represent Lithuania in a country that had always been Lithuania's close partner, advocate of strong transatlantic cooperation and the second Homeland for many Lithuanian emigrants.


President Adamkus expressed hope the new Ambassador would demonstrate good results in promoting further the economic, cultural and people-to-people relations between the two states, encouraging business and academic communities to look for new opportunities for cooperation and undertake new initiatives, and fostering the national identity of Lithuanians living in the United Kingdom.


In 1994-2000, Oskaras Jusys served as Lithuania's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary at the Permanent Mission to the United Nations.
In 2001-2005, he was Lithuania's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary and Permanent Representative to the European Union.
