President Adamkus is attending the European Summit in Brussels

Thursday, June 18, Brussels - President of the Republic of Lithuania is attending the European Council meeting in Brussels.

The EU heads and states and governments are discussing the process of ratification of the Lisbon Treaty, possible solutions to the economic crisis, improvement of the financial sector, climate change, and other issues of relevance.

On the today's agenda is also the issue of candidature for the position of the President of the European Commission.

President Adamkus underlines that Lithuania strongly supports the candidature of the present President of the Commission, Mr. José Manuel Barroso, who is an experienced diplomat and runs for the second mandate in the Commission.

President Adamkus invited the President of the European Parliament, Mr. Hans-Gert Pöttering, to visit Lithuania for the Millennium celebrations, and congratulated his Polish counterpart, Mr. Lech Kaczyński, on his 60th birthday.
