President Adamkus extended congratulations to Canada’s Governor General on national holiday

Wednesday, July 1, Vilnius - President Valdas Adamkus congratulated Governor General of Canada Michaëlle Jean, on the occasion of Canada Day, wishing her nation long years of wellbeing and prosperity.

In his letter of congratulations, President Adamkus underlined that Lithuania and Canada were linked by close friendly relations and joint responsibility for a more secure world. He noted that the two countries were working together to bring stability and hope of a better life to the people of Afghanistan.

President Adamkus emphasized that Canada had contributed in a major way to make Lithuania a donor country for Afghanistan and develop its policy of cooperation: "I believe that we will go on working in this direction and continue strengthening the North Atlantic Alliance based on democratic values and open to further enlargement."

Valdas Adamkus expressed his great appreciation of the interest demonstrated by the Government of Canada and the Canadian business community towards Lithuania. He welcomed Canada's willingness to participate in the implementation of energy projects, greatly important for Lithuania, in the Baltic Sea region.

"Your Excellency, you are always welcome in our country. I have no doubt that your visit to Lithuania will make contacts between our business people and representatives of science, arts and culture even more dynamic, promote youth exchanges, and build a better understanding between our two nations," Mr. Adamkus wrote.
