Media accreditation for the President's visit to the Czech Republic is open

Thursday, April 2, Vilnius - 9-10 April, President of the Republic of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus goes on a state visit to Prague, Czech Republic. During the visit, the President will be accompanied by Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Šarūnas Adomavičius, Vice-Minister of Economy Rimantas Žylius, and other officials.

 

While in Prague, the President will meet with the President of the Czech Republic Vaclav Klaus, Prime Minister Mirek Topolanek, President of the Senate (upper house of the Parliament) Pŕemysl Sobotka, Head of the Chamber of Deputies (lower house of the Parliament) Miloslav Vlček, and the Mayor of the City Pavel Bém.

 

In the meetings with high officials of the Czech Republic, the President plans to discuss the Czech experience of presidency of the European Union, the EU Eastern Partnership initiative, regional cooperation between and Vyshegrad and Baltic countries, energy security issues, and the outcome of NATO Summit of 3-4 April.

 

On the second day of the visit, the Lithuanian President will host business breakfast, during which Czech and other foreign investors will discuss prospects of business development in the Central European region. The business breakfast will be attended by representatives of a number of large corporations such as Czechinvest, Hyunday Motor, Mitsubishi, Toyota, Peugeot, Citroen units in the Czech Republic, Ge Money, Czech and Slovak Trade Bank ČSOB, commercial bank KB, consulting companies Accenture and Oracle Czech, Egston System Electronics, KG Process Innovations. It will also be attended by senior executives of the largest Czech investor in Lithuania OKZ Holding and the largest Lithuanian investor in the Czech Republic Eurolekarna (Eurovaistinė).

 

Friday, President Adamkus will participate in the official opening ceremony of the international conference of historians under the title "Czechs, Lithuanians, and the Vector of Modern History of Central Europe" organised by the Lithuanian Embassy in the Czech Republic. The focus of discussions in the Conference will be on the historical experience of the Czech Republic and Lithuania in Central Europe, the development of bilateral relations, and similarities between Czech and Lithuanian modernisation and ethnic movement processes in the XIX-XX centuries.

 

During the Conference, a reproduction of the painting "Battle of Grunwald" by Jonas Mateika will be exhibited.

The President comes back to Vilnius Friday evening.
