Tuesday, June 23, Tbilisi - President Valdas Adamkus, who is continuing his two-day working visit to Georgia, met with Head of the EU Monitoring Mission Hansjörg Haber.

Among the issues discussed at the meeting was the work of Lithuanian representatives of the EU Monitoring Mission and the situation on ground after the United Nations and the OSCE withdrew their missions from Georgia.

Hansjörg Haber spoke highly of the professionalism and expertise of observers from Lithuania working in Georgia.

Mr. Haber expressed regret that the EU Monitoring Mission was the only deployed in Georgia after the withdrawal of the UN and OSCE missions. It was underscored during the meeting that the EU Monitoring Mission was unable to fully perform its duties since its representatives were not allowed into South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
